Q. How do I become a SBEA member?
A. Just go to any SBEA store and fill out an application to join. Your dues will be taken out of your paycheck each payday. The clerk will give you a temporary card so you can use the services right away. Temporary membership is not good to receive discounts. You must have your membership card to use with the merchant discount program.
Q. How much are the dues?
A. If you are a Boeing or Spirit employee, the dues are $7.00 per pay period and are automatically deducted from your paycheck.
Q. With the announcement of Boeing leaving Wichita how does that effect the SBEA and anyone who has a current membership?
A. If you are retiring you may still join the SBEA, just show proof of retirement at the office located at the lake. There are several options for those leaving the company. We have affiliate memberships, extended memberships and open memberships besides the retirement membership. Call 522-2996 for more information.
Q. If I am a contractor can I join?
A. Yes, however you are not eligible for payroll deduction. You must pay your dues at a SBEA store or at the lake. You may pay $182.00 for 1 year up front. A year is from January 1 to December 31. If you have not already had an SBEA membership, we will prorate the 1st year. Your membership card will be sent to you with in 1-2 weeks.
Q. What happened to SBEA when the Boeing Company sold?
A. Many of you have called and asked that question. Your SBEA membership did not change. Boeing does not own SBEA. We are member-owned and NOT for sale. We have been your Employees’ Association since 1937. We will continue to be your Employees’ Association whether you are a Boeing employee or a Spirit employee. The only change that has happened is a name change: Spirit/Boeing Employees’ Association. We want to continue to serve you in our stores and at our lake facility. The only goal we have for the future is to strive to improve SBEA in every way we can.
Q. I am getting laid off from the company. Can I continue my membership with SBEA?
A. When you get laid off you are entitled to keep up your membership for 4 years from the date you are laid off. You have to go the SBEA Administration Office at 4226 S. Gold and fill out the paper work and pay. You will then have the same privileges as a affiliate member.
Q. I am going to retire. Do I need to cancel my SBEA membership? How do I keep my membership active when I retire?
A. When you retire you are eligible to join SBEA for a year at a time. Simply go to the lake office and fill out your paper work. Cost is $50.00 for a year. If you would like a SBEA Today newsletter mailed to your home, to keep you up to date with what’s going on in SBEA, you pay $10.00 per year at the SBEA office and we will mail you a newsletter. You may have it emailed to your home email at no charge, just sign up on our homepage to have it sent to you.
Q. I was not a SBEA member before I retired. Can I still join the SBEA and utilize the lake?
A. Yes, we process memberships Mon. – Fri., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. simply take proof of your retirement to the lake office, and the receptionist will be glad to help you. The cost is $50.00 a year.
Q. Can my wife be a member also?
A. Your wife is a member already off of your membership. You may apply for a spouse card so she may have her own card. Simply pick up a form at any SBEA store or at the lake office.
Q. Is there membership charges for my children and do they also get a membership card?
A. There is no additional cost for children, however there are guidelines for them to receive a card. They must be between the ages of 14 to 21 living at home for them to be able to get a membership card off your membership. You may apply for them a membership card by picking up a family form at any SBEA store or at the lake. However if your children are older than 21 you may purchase an Extended Membership SBEA extended membership for them off of your membership.
Q. How do I cancel my SBEA membership?
A. Go to any SBEA store and pick up a green cancellation card. Fill out the form and attach all SBEA membership cards, (member, spouse and family cards) and turn the form back into the SBEA clerk. This process may will take 2 – 3 weeks to cancel.
Q. Can I get a membership for my dad or brother?
A. Yes you can purchase a extended family membership that allows any family member to purchase a SBEA Membership off of your membership. Check out Extended Membership for all the rules and policies. Both the member and the family member must be present to purchase the membership.
Q. What is an Open SBEA Membership?
A. This membership allows armed services, active duty and reserves, emergency relief groups (police, fire and EMS) to join SBEA. Dues are set at the discretion of the Board of Directors. You may pay $216.00 for 1 year up front. A year is from January 1 to December 31. Guest policy will be the same as the extended family membership; two guests per month purchased.
